Alpha 1.5 Release.
Greetings, your potential enthusiasm for this build of the game is very much appreciated, so appreciated that the word appreciation will be considered redundant and a new word has to be invented for this amount of gratitude.
Dev Logs WHERE ARE THEY?!
Right, before we get into the entire dev/update log of Alpha 1.5, I would like to announce that I will now do frequent dev logs here on Itch. I have honestly no idea why I didn't do that from the start. Usually, I post small progress updates and artworks on my Bluesky, but now I will post bigger, more in-depth dev logs here and promote the dev log on my Bluesky.
Hey wait wait, WAIT I SAID, have some patience dude. We will talk about Alpha 1.5 now.
ALPHA 1.5 RELEASE!!
MAJOR ADDITIONS.
Perk Altars.
Hey, you're a human after all, but you can always receive some otherworldly support from very unusual-looking altars. Who the hell even puts those into places? Eradicators have been warned not to use them. Oh well, who cares, you're an Eradicator, completely cut off from any higher-ups frowning down on your decisions, you'll be fine.
In Alpha 1.5, you have been granted 3 altars where you can obtain quirky perks if you have the right sum of points.
The Blood Extract Altar.
Upon obtaining the blood extract perk, you will regenerate a small amount (20 HP) of health each time you hit an Anomaly with your Cutlass. It was planned that all weapons would give you life steal, but that would be a tad bit too overpowered.
The Blight Foot Altar.
Upon obtaining the blight foot perk. You will release a small puddle of acidic tar that will slow and deal a small amount of damage to any Anomaly stepping on it. Im currently unsure
The Twofold Reward Altar.
Upon obtaining the twofold reward perk, each point you earn will be DOUBLED! You deserve more, and so you will. Go out there and slaughter to your heart's delight.
MEDALS
Who said you shouldn't get compensated for your hard work of cleaning the streets from scum? Okay well, the Sentinel Judge and you Alpha Sentinel said you shouldn't be getting any medals or any kind of reward because you don't deserve them... Oh where was I? Ah right.
Right now there are currently only 3 Medals you can collect. For this version I only made a handful because I wanna test out how the system works and listen to feedback and ideas before I add more in depth ways to earn medals.
KILLSTREAKS
You don't feel motivated enough to continue eradicating anomalies? Is that right? How about this, you get an animated fancy splash image on your screen telling you how fricking AWESOME and FANTASTIC you are at your job.
Currently, you can earn 3 different killstreaks. I will adjust the kills required in a row during development. (Those are placeholder images)
1 - 5 kills in a row.
10 - 15 kills in a row.
15 - 20 kills in a row.
You also got a little portrait of yourself on the left of your hud, just so you can be up to date with your emotions. Aren't they cute? (Yes, "they". The Eradicator is nonbinary; it's up to each player to imagine who the Eradicator is and what kind of personality and life story they have.)
Miscellaneous
Now that we have covered all the major features of this Alpha build, let's cover all the other small changes and bug fixes.
BUG FIXES
- Fixed Shotgun Firing Delay.
- Fixed Shotgun Reload Logic.
- Fixed Weapon Muzzle Flash Particles.
- Fixed being able to spam the reload animations with a full magazine.
- Fixed being able to shoot while reloading.
Performance Improvements
Okay, now it's nothing new that Unreal Engine games are terribly optimized, I know, I know. I have started to learn how to optimize models, lights, textures and particles. The game should perform better now on lower-end pc's I will improve the performance more and more throughout the development in every build I release.
Finding the Extraction Point
I have received feedback that some players had trouble finding the extraction ladder, so I added a red smoke that is visible from far away.
Changes & Undocumented Additions
- Added a clicking sound when trying to fire an empty gun
- Removed health and ammo bonus pick-ups and replaced them with dedicated vending machines where you purchase health and ammo with points.
- The cutlass is now dedicated to a third weapon slot instead of using it as a quick attack when pressing or holding the F key.
- All weapons are now hitscan!
- Disabled shoving until next Alpha Build. The reason being that I want to rework its programming.
- Added slight gore and "blood" effects.
- Changed hitmaker animation.
- Changed crosshair.
